Hertz vs. RPM: What's the Difference?
[Image of sine wave frequency]Both Hertz and RPM measure the rate of cycles, but they use different time bases (Seconds vs Minutes). Converting between them is essential for motors and engines.
Cycles per Second. Used for electricity (50/60Hz), audio (20Hz-20kHz), and radio waves.
Revolutions per Minute. Used for engines, hard drives, and vinyl records. 1 Hz = 60 RPM.
Angular Velocity. Used in physics calculations. 1 Hz = 2ฯ rad/s (approx 6.28 rad/s).

The Audio Frequency Spectrum
Bass (20 - 250 Hz)
Low frequency sounds felt as much as heard. Subwoofers operate in this range.
Midrange (250 - 4kHz)
Human speech and most musical instruments live here. Our ears are most sensitive to this range.
Treble (4kHz - 20kHz)
High-frequency details, cymbals, and brilliance. Humans lose the ability to hear upper treble with age.
