How does the love calculator work?
The classic algorithm combines both names into the phrase "[Name 1] loves [Name 2]" then counts how many times each letter of L-O-V-E-S appears. The five counts form a number that's progressively "folded" — adding outside-in — until you're left with a two-digit percentage. Same names always produce the same result.
Is the love calculator scientifically accurate?
Not at all! It's pure entertainment. The algorithm has zero basis in psychology, relationship science, or any real predictor of compatibility. Why does my score never go to 100%?
The algorithm caps the maximum based on how many LOVES letters appear in your names. Few names contain enough L, O, V, E, or S letters to reach 100%. Names like Olivia, Eve, Lovelace, or Eloise tend to score higher because they contain LOVES letters naturally. Most ordinary pairs land in the 30–70% range.
Does the order of names matter?
No — the LOVES algorithm counts letters in the combined phrase regardless of which name comes first. So "Romeo loves Juliet" and "Juliet loves Romeo" produce the same percentage. The letters L, O, V, E, S appear the same total number of times either way.
Can I use nicknames or full names?
Either works, but you'll get different results for "Liz" vs "Elizabeth" since the letter counts differ. For consistency, pick one — first names, formal names, or nicknames — and stick with it. Many couples enjoy testing all the variations to see how the score shifts.

Does this work for same-sex or non-binary couples?

Can the same names give different results?
No — the algorithm is fully deterministic. The same two names will always produce the same percentage. Different spellings or capitalizations don't matter (we lowercase and strip non-letters), but adding middle names, last names, or nicknames will shift the count and change the result.
