Everything you need to know about calculating Bitcoin profit, ROI, break-even, and fees.
How do I calculate Bitcoin profit?
Bitcoin profit = (Coins x Sell Price x (1 minus Sell Fee%)) minus (Investment x (1 + Buy Fee%)). Simply subtract your total buy cost including fees from your total sale revenue after fees. Positive means profit; negative means a loss. Our calculator handles all of this instantly with your entered values.
What is ROI in Bitcoin trading?
ROI (Return on Investment) is the percentage gain or loss relative to your original investment. Formula: ROI% = (Net Profit divided by Total Cost) x 100. A 100% ROI means you doubled your money (2x return). A -50% ROI means you lost half your investment. ROI lets you compare performance across trades of different sizes.
What is the Bitcoin break-even price?
The break-even price is the exact sell price at which your trade results in zero profit and zero loss, accounting for both buy and sell fees. Formula: Break-even = Buy Price x (1 + Buy Fee%) divided by (1 minus Sell Fee%). With 0.1% fees each side and a $30,000 buy price, your break-even is approximately $30,060 — the minimum you need to sell at to avoid a loss.
Should I include trading fees in my profit calculation?
Absolutely. Fees are real costs that directly reduce your profits. A trader making 50 round-trip trades per year at 0.5% fee per side on a $10,000 account pays $500 per year in fees alone. Always include both buy and sell fees for an accurate picture of your true returns.
How much Bitcoin do I get for a specific dollar amount?
BTC received = Investment Amount divided by Buy Price per BTC. For example, investing $1,000 when Bitcoin is priced at $50,000 gives you 0.02 BTC. Our calculator shows this in the BTC Bought card. If you already know your coin quantity, switch to the By BTC Quantity mode.
What does the Bitcoin multiplier mean?
The multiplier shows how many times your investment grew or shrank. Multiplier = Sale Revenue divided by Total Cost. If you invested $1,000 and received $3,000 back, your multiplier is 3x (also expressed as 200% ROI). A multiplier below 1x indicates a loss — e.g., 0.5x means your $1,000 became $500.
Can I use this calculator for other cryptocurrencies?
Yes. The math is identical for any cryptocurrency including Ethereum, Solana, XRP, BNB, Dogecoin, and more. Simply enter the buy and sell price per coin for whatever crypto you are calculating. The profit, ROI, and break-even formulas are universal across all digital assets.
Do I pay tax on Bitcoin profits?
In most countries Bitcoin profits are subject to capital gains tax. In the USA, short-term gains held under one year are taxed as ordinary income while long-term gains receive preferential rates. The UK, Australia, Canada, and Germany have similar frameworks. This calculator shows gross profit before tax. Always consult a qualified tax professional in your jurisdiction.
What fee percentage should I enter for my exchange?
Common fee rates: Binance and Bybit (0.1%), OKX (0.08% to 0.1%), Kraken (0.16% to 0.26%), Coinbase Advanced Trade (0.4% to 0.6%), standard Coinbase (~1.49%). Check your exchange's official Fee Schedule page for your exact tier. If unsure, 0.1% is a reasonable estimate for most major exchanges when using limit orders.
What is the difference between By Amount and By BTC Qty modes?
By Investment Amount mode: enter how much fiat currency you invested (e.g., $1,000) and the calculator derives how many BTC you purchased. By BTC Quantity mode: enter the number of Bitcoin you own (e.g., 0.05 BTC) and the calculator derives the fiat value from your buy price. Choose whichever matches how you think about your position.
How accurate is this Bitcoin profit calculator?
Our calculator uses exact financial arithmetic formulas accurate to 8 decimal places. Results match what professional traders and accountants calculate manually. The only limitation is that we use fixed fee rates — if your exchange uses volume-tiered fees, actual fees at high volumes may differ slightly.
Does this work for leveraged or margin trades?
This calculator is designed for spot (unleveraged) trades only. For margin or futures positions, profits and losses are amplified by your leverage ratio and there are additional funding rates, interest costs, and liquidation risks that this calculator does not model. For leveraged trading, use a dedicated futures P&L calculator.
